How money moves through VanLife Connect

VanLife Connect uses Stripe to process service payments securely through the app. Travellers pay the agreed service price, while the VanLife Connect platform commission and Stripe processing fees are deducted from the Provider’s payment.

No subscription or listing fees There is no fee to create a VanLife Connect account or list services. VanLife Connect earns its fee when a Provider completes a paid booking through the platform.

1. Setting your service price

Providers decide what to charge for their services. Your price should be clear enough for the Traveller to understand what they are agreeing to pay.

1

Fixed Price

Use Fixed Price when you can define the service and total price clearly before the Traveller books.

2

Request a Quote

Use Request a Quote when the final price depends on the job, materials, time required or other details that need to be discussed first.

3

Include GST where applicable

If you are registered for GST, make sure your pricing and Provider details reflect your own GST obligations.

Price with the Provider fees in mind The amount you receive will be lower than the service price because the VanLife Connect commission and Stripe processing fee are deducted before your payout.

2. What the Traveller pays

The Traveller pays the service price shown or the final quote agreed through VanLife Connect. There is no additional VanLife Connect service fee added to the Traveller’s agreed service price.

Keep pricing transparent For quoted work, agree the scope and total price in the app before the Traveller confirms the booking. Any change to the work or price should also be clearly agreed.

3. Provider fees

Two main deductions apply to completed Provider bookings: the VanLife Connect platform commission and Stripe’s payment processing fee.

1

VanLife Connect commission – 10%

VanLife Connect deducts a 10% platform commission from the completed booking value.

2

Stripe processing fee

Stripe also deducts its applicable payment processing fee. As an indicative example, standard Australian card processing may be around 1.75% plus $0.30, but Stripe’s actual fee can vary by payment method, card type and its current pricing.

Example: $100 service On a $100 completed booking, VanLife Connect’s 10% commission is $10. Using an indicative Stripe fee of 1.75% + $0.30, Stripe would deduct approximately $2.05, leaving an indicative Provider amount of $87.95 before any tax obligations. Actual Stripe fees may differ.

4. How service payments work

Payments are handled inside VanLife Connect through Stripe so the booking, payment and completion process remain connected.

1

The booking is confirmed

The Traveller and Provider complete the booking process in VanLife Connect, including agreeing the service price.

2

The Traveller’s payment is processed

Stripe securely processes the Traveller’s payment details through the platform.

3

The service is completed

After the work is performed, follow the in-app completion process so the booking can progress to payout.

4

Fees are deducted

The VanLife Connect commission and applicable Stripe processing fees are deducted from the Provider payment.

Do not arrange off-platform payment Services booked through VanLife Connect must be paid through the platform. Cash or direct payment outside the app can prevent the platform’s cancellation, refund, dispute and review processes from applying and may result in account action.

5. Provider payouts

Provider payouts are handled through your connected Stripe account after the booking has been completed and the payment is eligible for release.

1

Complete Stripe onboarding

Your Stripe Connect setup must be complete and able to receive payouts.

2

Complete the booking

Make sure the service has been completed and the booking status is correctly updated in VanLife Connect.

3

Stripe sends the payout

Once eligible, the Provider amount is paid through Stripe according to the payout timing and banking arrangements applying to your connected Stripe account.

Payout timing can vary Bank processing times, Stripe account status, verification requirements, weekends and public holidays can affect when money reaches your bank account.

6. Transactions, invoices and tax

Use My VanLife to review your booking and transaction activity. Providers should keep appropriate records for their own business and tax requirements.

  • Review your completed bookings and transaction history.
  • Keep records of Provider income and applicable fees.
  • Keep your ABN and GST information current where relevant.
  • Retain invoices or transaction records required for your own accounting.
  • Seek your own tax or accounting advice if you are unsure about your obligations.
Providers are responsible for their own tax obligations VanLife Connect does not determine whether you are carrying on a business or whether ABN, GST, income tax or other obligations apply to you.

What happens if a booking is cancelled or disputed?

Cancellation timing, Provider cancellations, no-shows, refunds and disputed bookings can affect whether a payment is refunded or released. These situations are covered separately so you can see the applicable process clearly.
