Am I an employee of VanLife Connect or of the Traveller?

No. Providers are independent contractors, not employees. This means:

  • You are not employed by VanLife Connect or by the Traveller – you’re offering your services freelance via the platform.
  • You’re free to set your own prices, choose which jobs to take, and arrange your work methods. There are no “shifts” or bosses on the app – you are your own boss.
  • Because you’re not an employee, things like minimum wage, leave entitlements, or superannuation guarantee don’t apply. Instead, you charge for the jobs you do and you’re paid per booking.
  • You are responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and expenses that come with doing your work. For example, you need to set aside money for income tax, just as a self-employed person would. VanLife Connect doesn’t withhold tax from your payments.
  • If you violate platform rules or laws, your account can be deactivated. We follow the Australian gig economy regulations (Fair Work Act provisions) to ensure any deactivation is fair and in accordance with the new Digital Platform guidelines.
